On Sunday, February 07, 2010, Joe won the title of Junior Mr. Dance of Michigan in the Dance Masters of Michigan solo title competition. As a matter of note, this was Joe’s 1st solo performance ever!! The audience loved him and Joe looked like he was born to be on stage. Additionally, he received the high score award for his interview.

UPDATE:

Since winning the title of Junior Mr. Dance of Michigan, Joe has passed his Cecchetti Grade 1 exam.  In July, Joe traveled to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the Dance Masters of America competition. This intensive competition included convention classes, interviews with the judges, auditions and a group performance to open the show.  Joe had a great time, made many new friends and excelled in his classes.  He also won the interview for the Junior Mr. America competition.  Main Stage Center for the Arts is very proud of this excellent young man.

Genevieve, age 9, has received a $500.00 tuition scholarship to study with the Manhattan Youth Ballet in New York City.

She will attend their Summer Dance Intensive program for two weeks in August.

The new schedule for Fall is going home this week with your dancer—be sure to watch for it!

In this take home envelope are your child’s continuing class levels for next year and a schedule. If you auditioned for any of our Companies, your required classes were also added to this list. Your pre-registration will aid your actual registration for classes. Please check our schedule for any additional classes you might like to try. The schedule has a few additions that will surely benefit your child’s training. This Fall we will have two Leaps and Turns classes; one for ages 13 and up, and one for 12 and under. Kinderballet II and Grade I Ballet have each been split into two classes, so your dancer will get even more personal attention. Also exciting news for our tappers—we have a new teacher, Denise Caston! You can meet her during our Summer Intensive and find her bio under “staff” in this site. Sign up early to hold your spot in class—go to “downloads” to fill out your registration form. It really looks to be an exciting year!

We have another Queen!  Miss Kaely O’Connor was crowned Miss Capac and has been fulfilling her duties since last September.  Kaely is a Junior, for a couple more days anyway,  and a long time soloist member of our Main Attraction competition group.

As the competitions conclude for the 2010 session here are the results for the  Kids Artistic Review competition in Commerce Township.  Please note this was a 3 day event with 468 dances competing.  They did a great job.  Special thanks to the teachers and parents who give these students the opportunity to show their talent and make us proud.

Main Attractions garner 2 platinum solo awards and 4 overall awards!

Our 6 soloists all scored Gold or Platinum.  Lil’ G and Kaely each earned a platinum and placed 1st and 2nd overall, respectively, in their age category.  Our 4 1st time soloists all received gold awards!  Erin with 2nd overall age 17+;  Katie with 2nd overall age 15-16;  Besides their gold, Victoria and Jenna each received a special performance award.  Just FYI:  there were 155 dance routines with only 5 platinum awards given.  MSCA received two of them.  Our golds were very high as they placed in the top two in their age group.

Saturday, March 20th

The Main Attractions continued to excite the Judges and audiences today.

After a stunning beginning on Friday, the Main Attractions continued their high scores during Saturday’s group competition.  Our 4 entries received 3 High Golds and 1 Gold.  Two of these performances placed 1st overall and one placed 3rd overall.   This is out of over 170 group numbers!  Plus, the most deserved award of all was the Best Choreography Award to Ms. Laurie for “Smile”!!! Our directors don’t get nearly enough recognition for their TALENT and hard work.  Remember to thank your teachers next time you see them!
